Debate is a verbal, formal discussion, that is based on structured presentation of arguments. The goal of debating is development of critical thinking skills and rational consideration of both positions (proposition and opposition alike) in a given case. Each debater has to adhere to the rules of discussion (speaking order and speech time), so that the debate wouldn’t turn into a fight.

Each argument should be composed of 4 parts: statement, analysis(reasons), example and impact.

  1. Statement is the sentence which presents the main idea of the argument.
  2. The idea then needs to be developed and explained through analysis..
  3. In order to make the argument more convincing and less prone to rebuttal it is recommended to give examples.(eg. current, historical or statistical) which supports the stated argument.
  4. Through impacts explain how the argument contributes to the debate and how it influences the situation that is being discussed.

Apart from it is advised to give your arguments short rhetorically interesting names.
